Justin Lee (jl3656@drexel.edu)


     Hi, my name is Justin Lee. I was born and raised in San Francisco, CA, and am currently studying mechanical engineering. My interests in engineering were developed as a young kid watching Formula One races with my dad. I dreamt of designing and building race cars as a kid. I have traveled the world, and lived in different countries for extended periods of time. I'm an avid rugby player and fan. I've played rugby almost all my life both for San Francisco Golden Gate Rugby Club and Burnside High School in Christchurch, New Zealand. I can't wait to start designing and building a jacket that charges a smartphone with my engineering team.


Zen Luckowski (zll24@drexel.edu)

I'm Zen Luckowski, and am currently a freshman Drexel University studying Mechanical Engineering. I have been CAD modeling using Creo and Solidworks for a few years now, and am finally excited to be able to bring my designs to fruition. I am also experienced in may different types of fabrication, such as, woodworking and welding. I am hoping that these experiences help me in this project, and in turn helping my future career.

Hi, my name is Anchit Jain, and I'm currently studying Architectural Engineering at Drexel. I was born and brought up in Mumbai, India. I have been interested in structures since I was a kid. My favorite game when I was young was Lego. Even now, I would never say no to my siblings when they want to play Lego. I love all kinds of sports, and have been playing basketball since grade 1. I have been the captain for my high school team as well. Along with athletics, I love music as well and have been playing the guitar for the last eight years.

Hi, my name is Manpreet Parihar and I am from India. I am currently majoring in mechanical engineering from Drexel university, Philadelphia. Ever since I was a kid I had this avid passion for science. To be honest physics is what drives me crazy. I love working on innovative ideas and innovations, specifically ideas that deal with generation of clean green energy. This is the reason why I chose to work of phone charger project. In future, I would love to work on more innovation ideas like this and will try my best to make this world a better and greener place to live.

Week 1 Blog Post - Future

The Future In the coming future, I believe more and more work would be done by computers and machines compared to humans in each and every field. That according to me would be a new era of intelligent buildings. According to Bill Allen (CEO of Evolvelab LLC), Building Information Modeling, or BIM, will convert to Building Information Optimization. This means that instead of manually drawing walls, doors, and columns, we would just feed the computer rules instructing it to give us a building's optimal footprint, structural load capacity, and thermal performance. Week Eight

Weekly Objectives: The Week 8 objective predominantly consisted of getting a new housing printed. Furthermore, team members used a multimeter to test the voltage our design generated, and used an anemometer to test the wind speed in the channels of our jacket.  What we Accomplished: A new housing was fabricated via 3D printing and Creo-Parametric. The new housing is much more durable and sturdy than the prototype and will be used in the final design project. The housing has the same dimensions and is made of the same material as the prototype, but it wasn't 3D printed in two parts. As a result, the final housing will be able to easily withstand the pressure of the wind.  Experiments and testing constituted the majority of Week 8's Lab. Modifications were made to the AC motor to make the revolutions smoother. Also, a multimeter was used to determine the voltage our generator produced. Week Four

Weekly Objectives: We have ordered one of the new fans that was mentioned in last week's entry. We wanted to get one so we could test to make sure it will work well enough for us to use. We are currently waiting for that to arrive, then we can begin to assemble the electronic components, and then the full housing. We are also continuing to try to begin communicating with the head of the fashion design school. We have still not received an email back. We might try to contact someone else. What was accomplished: Unfortunately, we were not able to accomplish much this week as we are still waiting for parts and materials to be delivered. We have ordered the fans,  and also the plastic that we will make the housing with. We decided to use a high density polyethylene plastic as it is relatively lighter and more easy to machine than metal is. The material we ordered can be found here and here .
